The ACR128 is a dual interface smart card reader compliant to ISO 7816 Part 1-3 Class A, B standard for the Contact smart card and to ISO 14443 Part 1-4 Type A, B standard for the Contactless Card. By combining contact and contactless interfaces in one reader, ACR128 is appropriate for situations where the environments favor dual interface applications. For example, you may use the ACR128, on the one hand, to settle your online payment with contact EMV Level 1 cards, on the other hand, to read the balance of your Mifare membership cards. Furthermore, it can also be used as embedded readers in bigger machines and systems such as vending machines, automatic fare collection systems, and public telephone systems.

ACR128 is PC/SC Compliant for contact and contactless interfaces. It makes use of high-speed communication for PICCs (proximity or contactless cards) with a maximum speed of 848 kbps like DesFire Cards. Furthermore, ACR128 has intelligent support for hybrid cards and combi cards and it is designed such that it can still detect a contactless card even if it is inserted in the contact card slot. As different applications require different levels of security and functionality, theACR128 has a built-in SAM card slot for added security. What is more, is ACR128 uses a landing type card acceptor which minimizes card damage for more reliable card operations.
